'Operation Christmas Child'
This festive season, Cedar Health and Wellbeing were proud to take part in Operation Christmas Child, a global initiative that brings joy, hope and support to children in need across less fortunate countries. The project invites people to fill a shoebox with small gifts, such as toys, school supplies, and personal care items, which are then delivered to children who may otherwise receive nothing at Christmas. It is a simple idea with a huge impact that is able to bring immense joy to children who need it most.
A Global Mission of Giving
As a team, we felt strongly that this was not only an opportunity for us to give back, but also a meaningful way to involve the individuals we support. Teaching generosity and the importance of helping others is central to the work we do every day, and Operation Christmas Child offered the perfect platform to put these values into practice. Some of our staff members also took the initiative to pack shoeboxes at home with their families, personalising the gifts with thoughtfulness and a sense of Christmas spirit.
Involving the Individuals We Support
A highlight of the project was welcoming some of our supported individuals to the Head Office, where they had the opportunity to get involved in packing their own shoeboxes. Cedar Health and Wellbeing purchased supplies to fill an additional 20 boxes giving our individuals the freedom to get creative. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they carefully selected items for boys and girls across different age groups. Each showbox was finalised with a handwritten note wishing the receiving child a Merry Christmas.
Small Gifts, Big Impact
Watching everyone come together for a shared purpose was a powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can create meaningful change. What may seem like a modest gift here, such as colouring pencils, a soft toy, a toothbrush, or a puzzle, can bring immense happiness and comfort to a child who owns very little. Beyond the physical items, each shoebox sends a message: someone cares, someone is thinking of them and someone believes they deserve joy.
A Meaningful Experience
Taking part in Operation Christmas Child has been a rewarding and inspiring experience for our organisation. It has strengthened our sense of community, demonstrated the generosity of our staff, and provided valuable opportunities for the people we support to learn, participate, and make a difference. Most importantly, it has allowed all of us to embrace the spirit of giving in a truly meaningful way.
Thank You
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, effort and kindness to this project. Together, we have helped create brighter moments for children around the world and that is something worth celebrating this Christmas.
